09/10 YAS Indigenous Beading with Tessa

YAS Indigenous Beading - 1

This 3 hour class will be a great introduction into the beautiful beadwork style of the Métis people. As the Métis were referred to as the flower beadwork people, for their unique natural floral / nature designs, we will be working on a traditional beaded flower pin.

Our instructor, Tessa Stanley, is a member of the Métis Nation of Alberta, who now resides in Fernie, BC. Tessa has a Fine Arts Diploma from the University of Alberta. She has taught children’s art, craft and pottery classes for several years. Recently, Tessa instructed a moccasin making and beading class for the Elk Valley Métis Association.

All materials will be provided. You will be working on a simple 4 petal design to understand the stitches and beading that is used for most traditional bead work.

Pizza and snacks provided.

Free Drop-in for teens 12-18 yrs old.
